Chapter 115: Invasion and Defense
"Light signal from the observatory!"
A light flashes from the top of a distant mountain
The communications officer will check it without missing it and decode it.
"Decoding complete. Confirmed mad soldiers heading for the 4th wall, unit is a brigade, number is 2, armament is type 2."
The wolf commander confirms the contents and shouts
“Contact the troops at the 4th wall! No cover, use of magic stone arrows authorized!”
"I understand! I'll pass it on."
Only two years had passed.
The four countries worked together to build a long wall on the central border in two years.
Due to the rush, it was said that its appearance was ungainly.
However, it certainly functioned as a strong defense wall, prioritizing performance.
"Command, the food has arrived."
All of this was accomplished by the large number of locomotives visible in front of them.
They quickly transport tremendous quantities of materials and food from all four countries.
The wall, which is truly the cornerstone of the nation's defense, is maintained by these vehicles.
"Give priority to the 4th wall units. And don't forget the sweets, okay?"
"Understood!"
The supplies are loaded onto a vehicle and transported.
Just then, they heard a distant explosion.
"It's started."
Soldiers look in the direction of the 4th wall from the top of the wall they are in charge of.
Bows are being fired at the soldiers running under the walls.
The tip of the arrow glints and glows.
Exploding at the same time as it hit something and gouged out the flesh of the enemy soldiers.
"Commander, may I ask you a question?"
A catkin asks.
"How long will this battle last?"
But the commander has no answer.
No one knows.
Four nations allied immediately after the invasion of the mad soldiers.
The mad soldiers invaded many times while the wall was being built.
"This year marks the fourth year of the mad soldiers' invasion."
"Yes, they've invaded more than 170 times in those four years."
"I thought their numbers were decreasing..."
Certainly, the size of the enemy is decreasing
If they can hold out, the mad soldiers may destroy themselves on their own.
"...The central must have turned into hell."
The four countries they are protecting here are still at peace.
It's dangerous, but they don't have to worry about food, clothing, and shelter.
---------
Four countries.
Somewhere in one of those countries.
Many people were gathered in a large room.
Human, wolf, fox, cat
One of them speaks up.
"Does anyone know what is going on in the central!"
If there is such a thing, we will not have a hard time
"None of the scouts have returned."
“The number of mad soldiers is decreasing every year. Should we hold out for now and wait for them to be wiped out?"
"Until what time? How long do we wait? We may be well supplied now, but if the balance is lost, the situation will collapse at once!"
"Then we would exhaust our forces for nothing! In a war of attrition, the advantage will go to the mad soldiers who outnumber us all!"
"Is there no choice but to send the most talented people from the four countries?"
"Edgeworth-dono, huh?"
“Impossible! The reason why we are able to maintain this situation right now is because of Edgeworth-dono’s power.”
Mad soldiers weren't the only invading enemies
Sometimes, in addition to the mad soldiers, giant undead attacked.
And only the Count could stand up to them.
"Then what should we do!"
The discussion is progressing
And yet no progress is made.
One person speaks
"I recently met with Edgeworth-dono."
It was one of the foxkin.
"He, too, was concerned about the situation."
"Did he say anything?"
"He was trying to find a way out of the situation."
"Ooh!"
Many saw hope.
“As expected, Count Edgeworth also said that the only way to break through is with a small number of elites.”
But they do not know what lies ahead.
Is there someone controlling the mad soldiers?
Will killing it stop the enemy?
“But the problem is that we still rely heavily on Edgeworth-dono.”
"Yes, that's why Count Edgeworth is putting effort into training the next batch."
"Haa... that means..."
“Yes, we can only conclude that we must endure for the time being.”
In the end, no progress was made.
Everyone hangs on helplessly.
But there is a glimmer of hope.
Because the Count, who is said to be the strongest, hasn't given up yet.
And so they too...
"Yare, yare. We still have to work hard, don't we?"
"When the mad soldiers are destroyed, I'd like to leave this job to my son."
"I want to retire now."
"Do your best there, old fox, just give instructions inside the wall. Easy, right?"
They have a lot of work to do and started to move.
