Eternal Adventurer (WN): Chapter 198

Chapter 198: Vestiges of Life

There were indeed mad soldiers at the reported location.

About 50 of them.

"They're not armed..."

"No, they're not even wearing clothes."

"I don't want to see any naked bastards except Father."

Be patient there

The mad soldiers are completely lethargic

They are just standing there, looking up at the sky.

Occasionally, when I think they started walking, they immediately stop and look at the sky again

"Ginkei. Does the mad soldier have a pattern like that?"

"That thing is mad, but I don't think it can be called a soldier anymore, can it?"

"What do you call them then?"

"...I suggest nanomachine contaminants."

"Then. What's the answer to my question?"

"I've never seen this before."

It's a behavior that doesn't even correspond to the data Ginkei has.

"...I'm picking up a reaction underground."

"What?"

"Checking the details... I'm detecting ceramic reaction... confirming a cavity inside... some kind of underground facility."

"Ceramic? I've never heard of it."

"Father? What is ceramic?"

What? It's hard to explain even if I say it

"Um, clay or something baked? Ginkei, is that right?"

"Ceramic is ceramic, so I'd say that's correct."

"What, just pottery?"

"But the object being scanned is not clay."

"Are they materials related to Elfriade?"

"Yes"

"Anyway, let's investigate. We'll take care of them all."

---------

Getting rid of them is easy

They were neither armed nor resisting.

It was only when I hit the head of one of these nanomachine contaminants that Ginkei noticed something was wrong.

"Abnormal occurrence"

"What! Sedona, Wince! Get ready!"

"No, it's an anomaly, but there's no danger."

Ginkei's words made me lose my strength at once

"Can you say it a little more appropriately?"

"Appropriate... This nanomachine contaminant certainly shows traces of nanomachines altering its body and mind... but there was no nanomachine in its body."

Indeed it is abnormal

"The ends justify the means, huh?"

"I agree with that opinion. It seems that the purpose is not to expand the nanomachines, but to remodel the body."

"Shiro-san! There is an entrance!"

Wince and Sedona find the entrance to the underground facility.

But the entrance is...

"Wooden lid?"

"It's definitely wood. I'd guess it was made about 15 years ago."

Is this a recently constructed facility?

"The interior ceramics date back more than 7,000 years. Part of it has been repaired with wood similar to the lid. It is outlandish."

"It wouldn't be outlandish by any means."

They recently discovered a buried underground facility.

And after investigating and repairing it, they put a lid on the entrance. That's it.

"What about life reactions?"

"None, no kinetic reaction. The power's been shut off."

"Let's go in."

-----------

There's no power inside. It's pitch black.

"Light!"

I illuminated the surroundings with magic light

"If it was a luminous stone, it could have spread."

Well, it's better not to spread out. We don't know what kind of danger we might be in.

"Is that a candlestick on the wall?"

The candlestick contains melted wax

The dust is thin, I wonder if they used candles until recently

"Detected decomposition of organic matter, it's in the back"

And there is a lot of broken glass in the back of the facility.

"Everything is rotten"

"It doesn't smell too bad. It's pretty dry..."

"But it's starting to make me sick."

Among the broken glass, some of the original shapes were recognizable.

"That's a huge test tube."

"It looks like a human could fit in."

Wince seems to have already figured it out

"I assume it's a bio- testing facility."

Well, I can understand without Ginkei telling me

"It's further in."

"Is it dangerous?"

"No danger. Completely inactive."

I went further in, and that's what I found.

"A prison."

It was a medieval-style cell made of wood and steel.

It was a strange thing to see in a sci-fi setting.

Inside it was a dead body.

"When was the corpse?"

"About five years ago. The skeleton is made of ceramic, and the internal organs are artificial."

In other words, this corpse was not from the Kingdom.

Ginkei knew the answer

"It's severely damaged, but I've obtained genetic information. I judge it to be one of Elfriade's people."

"Does that mean Elfriade lived until recently?"

"The details of the Elfriade are not preserved in my data. But they must have known a life with this much physical modification."

It seems human, but it is not human.

A civilization capable of remodeling the body

We have met it

Wince asks Ginkei before me

"In other words, this corpse!"

"Yes, there is a 75% chance it's a Prelati corpse."
