Eternal Adventurer (WN): Chapter 268

Civilization

Goblin

It is an existence that is talked about in fantasy novels on Earth.

They are not as intelligent as humans.

And their hands are not that dexterous.

They attack humans with weapons they stole from humans.

They prefer soft flesh like women and children.

I've seen them in Berdreich, and I've exterminated quite a few of them.

The only difference is...

They don't kidnap and rape women.

And they're not unusually fertile.

They grow and age quickly.

And they tend to stay in herds.

That's why they seem so numerous.

I followed the goblin with whom I made a promise.

Wince and Sedona returned to the airship.

From here on out, I'm on my own.

"Is that… threshing?"

A bunch of dry grass is repeatedly stuck into something that looks like a giant comb and pulled.

At the bottom, small grains are piled up like a mountain.

"That’s right, together, we made it."

There is a stone mill next to it

Goblins are making it with their accustomed hands.

"Stop!"

When we arrived in front of a large straw house, we were stopped.

In front of us are two goblins with spears.

"Iburo! Why a human, here?"

Apparently, the name of the goblin who I made a promise with is Iburo.

"This guy, is different human, he reads English!"

"Read? Read! English! Read!"

"Just a little. All I can read is Japanese."

"......Then, any of these, read."

After saying that, I was shown the rock decorated in front of the straw house.

That's impossible

It's not something I can read with my high school knowledge.

I'll find a part that I can at least read.

"Um... [We are friends] [We are a family] [Let's hold hands]."

Yep, I think it's good

I'm glad there's a part I can read

"Did I say them right?"

"It is, maybe."

Apparently, the goblins don't know that much English language either.

"Who wrote this sentence?"

"Lola, taught us, words."

"English too?"

"English, when she teach, Lola died.''

"Are there more than these?"

"None, only this, Lola made."

"I see."

"And, it is said, for the children."

Are you saying my knowledge of English is limited to children?

Is this guy trying to pick a fight with me?

But what did that person named Lola want?

That person is definitely the same as me, a synthetic dragon

Why go to the trouble of sharing living with goblins instead of humans?

I was surprised that goblins created a society this much.

Why not put that effort into something else?

"Inside, let's go."

With these thoughts in mind, I enter the straw house.

There was no partition or floor inside, just a place to shelter from the rain and wind.

In the back

An old goblin sits on a bundle of dried grass.

"..."

"Chief, I brought something like Lola."

"..."

The old man glared at me and didn't move.

"Chief, I, with this guy, made promise."

"…Promise, what?"

"This guy, promise, not attack."

Somehow, these guys

I'd say they're so loyal, so pure.

They make humans look so much worse and uglier.

"You, your name."

The chief speaks to me

"Shiro"

"Shiro, I understand. Shiro, why come here?"

Looks like I can finally get to the point.

I explained the circumstances from here.

But...

"I don't know, you're talking about."

It seems the words are too difficult

Oh, come on! You should educate them better, Lola-san, the stranger!

I ended up spending the whole night trying to break it down and explain it.
