Invisible Wall
"Ten centimeters, pick, draw."
What I took out from my palm was a needle-shaped iron sword.
Too short to be a rapier
An ice pick would be closer.
I thrust it vigorously.
"…No good"
It sounds like rocks scraping
I felt its impact on my hand and I realize that there is no meaning to it.
"Commander, the food is ready."
Four days have passed since we subdued the three Nibels.
Fortunately, the airship that crashed didn't catch fire, and we had no shortage of food.
"Hmm, I wonder what this is."
I put my hand in the air.
I can't see anything there.
But there was a wall that could never be crossed
When I heard the report, I had no idea what it meant.
It wasn't Nibel's fault that the airship crashed.
It crashed because it hit this invisible wall.
"Can't the Commander's sword destroy it?"
"No. Not a scratch."
There is a world beyond the wall.
But even though you can see beyond it, you can't touch it.
"Pyii!"
A wild animal cries next to us.
It was an animal very similar to Earth's deer.
It didn't realize there was a wall and crashed into it.
"...Wha?"
"What is it?"
"Did you see any creature like it?"
"I've never seen anything like that."
I'm out of ideas.
I guess I'll have to ask Ginkei.
"Then there's the ceiling."
"You mean that?"
The ceilings in this world all looked the same.
But this place where the soil is exposed is different.
Melted rock hangs down like icicles
"Wasn't this location on the north side of the empire, at the sea?"
"Yes, it should be at the same coordinates as the volcano that appeared on the surface."
Does this mean that Nibel, who attacked the empire 100 years ago, climbed up from this world?
How long did it take to get there?
"…Let’s have some food."
"Yes, but it's all portable food."
"There was a prototype canned product, right?"
"I ate it first."
"Was it delicious?"
"If you ask me if it tastes good, I'd say it's not good. I think the existing ones are better."
Is canning technology still under development?
I wish it could be thin and completely sealed like on Earth.
"Is the one they're giving us now the Type 3?"
"Yes, the Type 2 was too thin and leaked many times due to impact during flight."
I remember one time I opened a crate and the cans were soaked with leaked fat.
And it's hard to open.
"I heard that Type 3 was unpopular with Imperial soldiers because it was too thick?"
"Ah, it seems like there are a lot of people who shoot it open because it’s so hard."
It doesn't seem to be a big problem for the temple knights though.
These guys can easily cut iron.
The current goal is to make it thin enough to be opened with a can opener.
