Five Eyes
The five of us are heading to the village of Isalka.
We're going to meet with the chief of Isalka and ask him for information on the case.
I don't think we'll get anything useful, but it'll be better than nothing.
"Stop!"
And we're stopped at the entrance to the settlement.
There are two of them.
Both wearing only loincloths.
Both are strong, brown-skinned men with fangs and colorful laces.
The spears they carry are made of sharpened stone, like obsidian.
The shaft is wooden and very long.
"What do you want! This is the land of Isalka!"
"I am Rion Ula, son of Sendora Malkin."
"Ooh! You are sent by Malkin-dono!"
Heh? Malkin is trusted by the people of Isalka
Just hearing Malkin's name makes these two wary people let their guard down on Rion.
"We were dispatched to solve the incident..."
"I'm Shiro."
But they haven't let their guard down much against me.
Well, of course.
You can't become friendly to everyone just by mentioning the name of someone you trust.
Especially since I'm clearly a person with a different appearance than Isalka or the Principality.
"No problem, Shiro-dono shares the same values as Knight Malkin."
With those words, we were somehow guided into the village.
The sight of the village gave me a nostalgic feeling.
Where was it?
It was probably so long ago that I can't remember.
"It reminds me of Dragon Mountain Village..."
That's right!
Wince's words finally jogged my memory.
"Shiro-dono!"
As I was looking around, I heard a voice from the side.
The owner of that voice is
"Malkin-dono!"
Was this village the subject of an urgent matter?
"Why are you here, Malkin-dono? Did you have an urgent matter to attend to?"
"Yeah, I finished my business early in the morning and headed here. I was hoping to meet up with you."
I see.
"Malkin-dono's business had nothing to do with this case?"
"No, I don't think so. There was a bit of trouble in another village last night."
"That was tough."
"No, it ended peacefully, so there were no problems."
From there, Malkin led us around the village.
Arrangements were made to easily talk to the Chief of Isalka.
That's amazing, Malkin, he's so trusted.

The Isalka chief wore different clothes than the others.
A robe-like garment with lots of fangs, bones, and strings tied together.
On his head, he wore a crown made of wood
Something like a blind was lowered from there, making it difficult to see the face.
Judging from the barely visible bare skin on the neck,
I would guess the age to be around 30 years old.
I was a little surprised because when I thought of a clan chief, I imagined an old man in his 80s or 90s.
"I am Nyin Noon, ruler of Isalka."
"I am Shiro Edgeworth, Commander of the Empire's Polaris Knights. I have come before you with a request..."
"That one of my people gouged out his own eyes and committed suicide, right?"
He said it first.
I think it's not polite to interrupt, but I guess that's not the case in Isalka.
Malkin and the others don't seem to care about the situation.
"So, the place of the incident..."
"The location is here, I've already marked it on the map."
"Evidence..."
"We've found no evidence of anything unusual around the house, and all the objects used in the suicide are his property."
"Relation…"
"No unusual behavior was found in their personal relationships."
All of this is told ahead of time.
Rion and the others looked at the situation a little strangely.
"…Is there some kind of trick?"
"That's fast, Commander-dono."
The chief's voice softens from its stern tone.
"There are certain conditions for becoming the chief of our clan, the Isalka."
"Like what?"
"Has the eyes."
Eyes?
Everyone has eyes, right?

Even in the empire, such a person is born only rarely.
But I've never heard of an ability like precognition.
"We call these eyes the Five Eyes."
The person who possesses the [Five Eyes] becomes the chief of the Isalka tribe.
It doesn't matter whether you are young or old
At the same time as the chief dies, someone in the clan manifests the [Five Eyes].
And that person will become the chief from that day onwards.
