Rome wasn't Built in a Day
"Mylene, could you tell me more about the countries in Europe?"
When I heard that there was a Roman Empire, I wanted to know more about this world.
"I understand. First of all, the Roman Empire is located here on this map."
When Mylene said that, she pointed at the map.
"I see, it's around Italy."
I was convinced that it was exactly where I expected it to be.
"And the Holy Roman Empire is right above the Roman Empire."
"There's even a Holy Roman Empire!
So, speaking of Earth, it's around Germany.''
I nod and ask Mylene to tell me the next country.
"The Frankish Kingdom is here. The Kingdom of Britain is here. And on the Iberian Peninsula is the Kingdom of Castile!"
"I see, the Frankish Kingdom is France, the Kingdom of Britain is England, and the Kingdom of Castile is Spain!"
It's like old Europe.
It's a country name that everyone has heard of.
I think the eras in which they existed were different.
Also, if there is the Roman Empire or the Holy Roman Empire, then perhaps there is also Christianity.
"Just to confirm, is there any Christianity?"
"Of course there is!
The Roman Empire, the Frankish Kingdom, and the Kingdom of Britain were Christian countries.
The Roman Empire was Catholic. The Kingdom of Britain is Protestant.
And the Frankish Kingdom is about half Catholic and half Protestant!"
Apparently, there are even Catholics and Protestants.
The history is very similar to that of Earth.
"I see. So, isn't the Holy Roman Empire a Christian country?"
I was a little curious, so I asked a question.
"The Holy Roman Empire was Jewish."
The Holy Roman Empire was a Jewish state.
In my world, the Holy Roman Empire was a Catholic country.
"Do you know why the Holy Roman Empire is a Jewish country?"
"Of course. Originally, the Roman Empire was also a country where Judaism was the state religion. Many generations ago, there was a Christian emperor, and that emperor decided to make Christianity the state religion of the Roman Empire.
The Jewish Romans rebelled against this and established the new Holy Roman Empire in Gaul, which had been a tributary state."
She sounds like a person who confidently writes wrong answers in a world history test.
Well, this world itself is like a wrong world history.
For now, I understand that this world has a similar history to the Earth I lived on.
But it's a completely different world.
Or rather, the fact that there is Christianity means that there are things like vampire hunters.
I'm sure there are things like holy water and crosses that vampires are weak against.
"Mylene. Maybe Christians hate vampires?"
"Of course!
The Vatican, the Catholic headquarters of the Roman Empire, has become a major anti-vampire and anti-devil base."
Mylene spoke to me, her face flushed with excitement.
As expected, as a dhampir, I guess she has opinions on the matter.
"So, what about the Protestant side?"
"In the Kingdom of Britain, there is a family of famous vampire hunters, the Earl Hellsing family."
It's kind of similar to Earth after all.
Van Helsing from the vampire Dracula.
Wasn't that a fictional character?
It looks like they actually exist, so there's nothing I can do about it.
Well, after listening to Mylene's story, I realized one thing.
This world is a difficult world for vampires to live in.
"So, how do vampires live in this world?
Aren't they persecuted in Europe?"
I asked Mylene a question.
"Those who hold titles and have strong Ancestor-sama blood usually live together with other people.
Those people have no weaknesses in sunlight or crosses, so they are normally nobles in the Roman Empire, the Holy Roman Empire, and the Kingdom of Britain.''
"I... I see..."
I'm strangely convinced.
Vampire aristocrats, like Count Dracula, are usually aristocrats in the human world as well.
"The ones who get subdued by the Vatican or Hellsing are weak vampires who don't have titles."
"What position do dhampirs stand in?"
I'm curious and ask a question.
"Many dhampirs are kept in the Vatican.
Dhampirs can sense the presence of vampires.''
"I see. So you're saying that's why they're so hated by purebred vampires?"
"That's what I'm saying. Normally, children are rarely born between vampires and humans, so vampires don't use contraception at all when they have s*x with human women."
"So, the Vatican will find the dhampirs that are born every now and then and raise them to become vampire hunters."
"That's right. I am also thought to be the son of some noble vampire.
Apparently, I was abandoned at a church orphanage soon after I was born.''
"I see. You are from an orphanage like me."
"Is Ancestor-sama also from an orphanage? But you're not even a dhampir?"
Mylene doesn't seem to understand that I, a vampire, came from an orphanage.
"Because I'm a former human!
Then I went from human to skeleton, to a Lich, back to a skeleton, to a Lich again, to a lesser vampire, to a normal vampire.
Well, even if I say it's normal, it's a special individual because it's a perfect vampire!"
Mylene shows a puzzled look.
Well, it's not unreasonable.
I too understand that it's a mess.
"I don't really understand, but Ancestor-sama lived a magnificent life..."
"It's not magnificent, but it's not normal."
I replied casually.
After all, I am an Ancestor whom Mylene worships and serves.
