Eternal Adventurer (WN): Chapter 40

Chapter 40: Dragon God

When I came to this world, I thought

The value of life is so much lower than on Earth.

At the administration's requests

Bandits, thieves, and criminals are often subjugated

Not arrest or capture, of course.

It is declared to kill

Once they know they're killed, it doesn't matter what you do to the target.

So it seems to be quite common to find perverts working as adventurers

In the tavern

"There was a woman among the bandits, so we gang-raped her until morning, and she died on her own."

And

"I hung her from a tree and watched her die slowly."

And

"I tore her crotch open with a bull, she cried out loud."

And they brag about it a lot.

Yeah, adventurers and bandits are no different.

Of course, those who are treated as bandits are also not good.

They kill peasants and civilians. They rob. Kidnap. Rape them.

If you keep doing that, of course, your senses become numb.

I no longer feel any emotion when I take the life of a man whom I judge to be my enemy.

And the reward for killing someone like that is 10 to 20 copper coins.

Is that why?

Seeing this scene

I felt as if my rough heart was being washed away.

--------

Idyllic, shall I say?

There are animals eating grass on the plains above the mountains

They must be livestock because they are surrounded by fences.

"First you must meet my father, the chief."

Rumseil takes the trouble to restate.

"Why is he restating it?"

Wince asks me

"It's not a private meeting, but a responsible meeting on behalf of the family, right?"

Maybe.

"Chief. I've brought him."

"Good work"

Of course, the chief was a lizardman.

Unlike Rumseil, he has noticeable cracks on the surface and dry skin.

He must be quite old

"Welcome to our home."

"Because it may not be irrelevant to us either."

Sermus answers

However, the tribal chief looks at Sermus in a strange way.

"Hmm? You don't look that strong to me though?"

"Chief, he is a witness. These two are the strong ones whom the Dragon God has called."

"Ooh, ooohh... this is truly... a really magnificent power."

The chief looks at us and is somewhat moved.

"I'm sorry, I'm only an assistant, I'm not that strong."

Wince seems to be troubled by being lumped with me.

I don't think so

Wince must have gotten a lot stronger in three years.

"Yeah... I'm sure that you're the one..."

"It's Shiro."

“Shiro-dono, I feel that you have tremendous power. But you, too, have unparalleled power."

"Me?"

You know what you're talking about, Chief.

"That is why you two are qualified to speak to the Dragon God."

"A-am I not good enough?"

Sermus seems to have been removed

"I'm sorry. It takes a lot of strength to talk to the Dragon God. If a weak person meets the Dragon God, they will die at that moment."

"I am not strong enough..."

"Yes"

"...I understand. Shiro-san, Wince-san. It's frustrating, but please."

"Leave it to us."

"Let's go."

----------

"From here onwards, the two of you will proceed on your own."

The guiding lizardman stops.

If you take even one step to the side, you will fall down the narrow path.

The sea of clouds is all around us.

"What would happen... if you fell down?"

"If there's a trace of it, all the better."

When I answered that, Wince grabbed my hand.

"As expected, I'm getting a little scared."

Good, I was scared too and wanted to hold your hand

We followed a narrow path, and there was a cliff in front of us.

The road seems to end here

-You're here-

A voice echoes through the sky

“Shiro-san, what was that?"

"It's the Dragon God."

-Correct-

Something moves in the sea of clouds.

A violent wind blew and blew away the entire sea of clouds around us.

-The one who is called the Dragon God. I am Edgeworth.-

In front of me was a dragon with limbs and wings, no doubt.

I estimate it to be about 40 meters tall.

And three pairs of wings about the same size as the main body.

I see... This could certainly be called a god.

-I may be called the Dragon God, but after all, I'm just another life. Don't be so afraid-

"Well, then, let's get right to the point. Let's hear why you called us here."
