Arrival at the Royal Capital
Unpleasant……
Shortly before the attack, I noticed that Fran Ojou-sama's carriage and the merchant caravan were surrounded.
I immediately informed the adventurers around me, but they were at a loss to contact the knights ahead of us.
I was wondering if people would believe me if I reported it. Also, will I not be trusted and receive reprimands and abuse? I may have felt that way. That turned out to be a bad thing.
The knights and the Ojou-sama's carriage in the front, which did not receive any communication, were damaged by the bandits' pre-emptive attack.
The knight who was acting as a coachman was hit by an arrow and died. The knights who were protecting the sides of the carriage were also killed because they were unable to respond to the bandits' attack. Additionally, both of the horses that were pulling the carriage died, and Ojou-sama's carriage overturned and its axle broke, making it unable to run.
On the other hand, McQueen-san's trading party, which was advancing in the rear, had no fatalities, although some adventurers were seriously injured.
For now, I treated the adventurers with [Recovery Magic] and then treated the knights, Ayako, and Fran Ojou-sama as well. At that time, Ayako was surprised, but did not interrupt me.
Unpleasant……
Since Fran Ojou-sama's carriage was no longer usable, I had no choice but to use my [Spatial Magic] to take the luggage in one of McQueen-san's carriages, and have Fran Ojou-sama ride in it. It was agreed that I would take the bodies of the deceased knights to [Spatial Magic] and hand them over to the Duke's family when we arrived at the capital. By the way, there was also the broken carriage.
Unpleasant……
And what remained... were the bodies of the bandits.
The remaining knight and Ayako asked me if I could take the bandits' bodies back as well. Apparently, they were thinking of making a portrait to find out who was behind the bandits.
But I refused. First of all, I knew that it was impossible to find out who was behind the bandits.
Yes, I looked at the bandits with my [God's Eye]. That's why I feel so bad right now.
There's no one behind these guys. These guys acted according to their own ideas, and then died.
These bandits... they are church fanatics.
When they were alive, I caught a glimpse of them being in a state of [brainwashing] and [frenzy]. In other words, they attacked happily and died happily.
Unpleasant……
I can't stop feeling nauseous since I saw the memories and emotions at the time of their death......
Moreover, this time, I killed someone with my own hands, albeit indirectly. It was my first time. Killing people...
Rain is the same, she also has a pale face.
After disposing of the bandits' corpses in the bushes, our group headed for the capital.
After arriving in the capital, we headed straight south to the royal residence of the Saint Duke family, where I handed over the broken carriage and the deceased knights.
On the way home, Ayako came up to me, bowed her head and apologized.
"I was rude on the way. I apologize for this. Also... I would like to thank you for taking care of Ojou-sama and the other knights, and for delivering the body of the deceased knights."
While I was stammering a little to say something in return, Ayako left.
After Rain and I asked about the location of McQueen-san's branch, we teleported back to our home in RockQueen.
Rain and I couldn't stand it either. Feeling guilty for killing someone...
When I get back to the house, I find Ginko with Maria and Lida. I was happy to see the three of them welcoming me and Rain with smiles. Although it was a short time, just spending time with my family made Rain and I feel a little better.
In particular, Lida, as a senior adventurer, had faced bandits and killed people in the past, so she listened to our story and comforted us. We thought we were lucky to have someone by our side who could understand and share our stories like this.
The next day, Rain and I returned to the capital and unloaded our luggage at McQueen-san's branch.
McQueen-san's branch was located in a three-story building on the south side of the capital, slightly off the main street in the commercial district, near the Duke's residence. The store space on the first floor is small but deep, and there is also a warehouse in the basement.
The second floor is a living space for the employees, and the third floor is rented as a room for me and Rain.
McQueen-san, three of his employees, and I spent two days taking stock of the branch.
The next day, Rain and I visited the academy.
The academy was located on the west side of the royal capital, close to the south side of the royal castle, and was easily accessible to nobles and commoners. Two people who looked like guards were standing in front of the academy gate.
Will I be threatened with the words [This is not a place for commoners to stop by!]? I expected that, but that was not the case and I was very politely guided to the academy's office.
At the office I was shown to, a nice-looking lady who looked like a clerk who kindly and carefully explained the procedures and exams, and the procedures for the entrance ceremony.
I was hoping for something more like this from the person wearing glasses, saying things like, [This prestigious school will have an atmosphere of a commoner], but that wasn't the case.
I couldn't help but ask her about it...
"As a school, we don't discriminate. However, some children of nobles have a high handed attitude, so it is common for commoner children and demi-human children to be bullied. Well... as a school, they will be warned, but the other person is a nobleman, so they won't listen to us. You guys should be careful, too.''
I finished the formalities and headed home, still feeling uneasy.

ReplyDeleteThat useless knight just have a weak apology and left? Punk. One weak "I apologize" doesn't not make up for all the rude shit she said.
