Dungeon in the Forest, We Arrived
When Ginko was a stray Fenrir before meeting me, she roosted in a dungeon near the center of the Demon Forest.
It was the perfect size to shelter from the wind and rain, had moderate mana, and had easy prey such as goblins and orcs produced in the dungeon, so she had no trouble finding food.
She basically spent her time sleeping, but when she got tired of goblins and orcs, she would go out hunting.
Ginko's legs were fast. She can run east and west through the forest in a week. In human terms, it would take a year, taking into account the difficulty of the forest. If it were north-south, it would take two weeks for Ginko and two years for a person. However, people and monsters rarely travel from north to south. This is because this continent, almost at the north and south ends of the world, is covered with mountains, and neither people nor monsters live there.
Going back to the story, Ginko's hunting range was to the east. This is because there was not particularly good prey in the west. In a taste sense.
"There's no point in hunting the west because they're all goblins and orcs that I usually eat. There were snake-type monsters, but those monsters aren't particularly rare either. On the other hand, there are many boar-type monsters on the east side. They are more delicious than orcs and are worth hunting. And there are a lot of rare ones, too, and sometimes chimera. They are not tasty, but they are very rewarding and interesting to hunt."
She told me such a story on the way.
The reason why we ended up talking about it was because Ginko told me the excuse that it took her five years to meet me.
When she received the divine oracle from God... Evil God-san, she couldn't understand human words. She has a skill called [Telepathy], but that only has meaning between people who have the same skill. [Telepathy] is not a means of exchanging language, but a means of exchanging intentions.
I wondered why Evil God-san didn't use telepathy, but Ginko couldn't understand Evil God-san's words, that is, the language.
In order to understand the meaning of that language, she apparently had a hard time finding someone in the East who could use telepathy and someone who understood human language.
When she finally understood the language, she moved to find it, but she found that there was no newly born demon king in the east, so she searched in the west, and as a result, she found me.
Perhaps Evil God-san intentionally did not use [Telepathy] in consideration of the time it would take for Ginko to understand the oracle. Maybe he thought it was okay if Ginko did not understand and ignored him. Thinking about it, my encounter with Ginko felt like fate.
We traveled during the day, and when the sun went down, I used [Transfer Magic] to return home, eat the dinner Maria made, and sleep.
We repeated this process and arrived at the dungeon in question two days later.
"Is this a dungeon?"
What was there was a cave of unknown depth, less than 2 meters high and more than 5 meters wide.
I thought if it is something like a temple, I feel like I've been betrayed.
"That's right. This is where I used to sleep."
I asked Ginko, who had returned to her human form and put on her clothes.
"Did you see what's going on inside?"
"I haven't. I just looked around on the first floor if I got hungry."
"How did you know this was a dungeon? And how did you know it was on the first floor?"
"There's mana, right? That's why. I knew it was on the first floor because there were stairs going down."
"Hmm. What should we do? Personally, I'm disappointed, but I'm already devastated..."
When I was feeling a little down, Ginko affirmed it.
"It's certainly terrible. I felt a little stronger mana in the dungeon near the territory on the east side. This place only has about one-third of its mana. At most, it's only three floors."
"So there are only goblins and orcs, right? It's not very tasty..."
Ginko looked at me a little curiously.
"Hmm? Master. It's the fact that it's so shabby that makes it so tasty, isn't it? If you can get dungeon core easily, Master, the [Demon King], can build a new dungeon, right?"
Hmm? Build a dungeon?
I thought for a moment and remembered.
Ah... I can build a dungeon...
"Master sometimes forgets that you are a Demon King... Normally, to create a dungeon core, you would need a considerable amount of condensed magic stones or the magic stones of a high-ranking dragon. However. If you want to get it quickly, it's best to conquer other dungeons. In that sense, I think this dungeon is quite tasty as it is easy to conquer.''
She said that and showed me her white teeth.
As expected of Ginko. She usually just sleeps, but when I'm worried she gives me some really good advice.
That was the time. Rain, who was alert to the surroundings, raised her voice.
"Onii-sama! There are signs of people coming from deep in the forest to the east! And many orcs!"
People in the center of this forest? Demons? Is there one?
"Let’s go for now!"
Rain and I took action before thinking.
Tftc.
