Business Negotiation on the Road
McQueen-san, a peddler from the Multi-race Republic, heads to the Frontier Count Mascargo territory every spring, taking a route that passes through the Baron Garcia territory.
I am allowed to accompany him on the way there.
McQueen-san's plan is to head to RockQueen, known as the [Adventurer's City] as soon as he enters the Frontier Count territory. I'm heading for that town.
RockQueen is the second largest city in the Frontier Count territory.
Originally, this city was built by the Frontier Count, who had succeeded in developing the [Demon Forest], with the intention of relocating the capital there, as they feared that the neighboring Duke family to the east might take their territory away.
As a result, the city is close to the [Demon Forest] and offers generous preferential treatment to adventurers, so it has become the city where adventurers gather most in the Kingdom.
Furthermore, since Frontier Count Mascargo is tolerant of demi-humans, this city has a high percentage of demi-humans living in the Kingdom.
Discrimination against demi-humans in the Kingdom is more prevalent in the north, near the Holy Church and the Empire, where there are almost no demi-humans.
On the other hand, one might think that there are more demi-humans in the south, which is closer to the Multi-race Republic, but that's not the case.
On the contrary, since it is easier to spend time in the Republic than in the Kingdom, few demi-humans stay in the South. It is said that most of them are merchants and craftsmen who have connections with the Republic.
I heard about this from McQueen-san during the trip.
McQueen-san is doing business with the demi-humans in the Frontier territory. He makes his living by bringing in and selling the Republic's specialties and buying back materials from monsters in the [Demon Forest].
"By the way, Light-san. Is that a sword you're wearing on your waist?"
"Yes, but is it unusual?"
McQueen-san called out to me as I was walking on foot. It would be cruel to let Maria walk, so she was the only one inside the carriage, but Rain and I were walking outside the carriage.
There were two carriages. The first carriage was being driven by the man who had taught me [Spatial Magic] before, and the second carriage was being driven by McQueen-san.
The carriage is being protected by adventurers led by Lida, and Rain and I are also cooperating with this.
Ginko is free to go as she pleases, with my permission.
The road leading to the Frontier Count territory is close to the [Demon Forest], so I have Ginko go into the forest and hunt the monsters that approach here.
"I do see people using swords in the Adventurer’s Guild of the Republic, but it’s still rare. May I take a look?”
"Sure."
I handed the sword to McQueen-san.
He was deftly manipulating the horse while pulling the sword out of its sheath and looking at various things. Yes, he also has [Appraisal].
After looking at it, he let out a breath and handed the sword back to me.
"Well... it's a wonderful item, but it won't sell. The performance is too high. First of all, ordinary adventurers can't handle it."
"Is that so?"
"Yes. And the decoration is so poor that it would not be worth much as a decoration item. Was that sword found in a dungeon somewhere?"
"No. This is the sword I made."
When I answered, McQueen-san was surprised.
"You made that sword!? It's a magic sword, right?"
"Since it's a sword, I think it's a magic sword."
"Well… I am surprised. I had heard rumors about Light-san, but I didn't know it was this good...... You will also do blacksmithing in RockQueen, right?"
I thought for a while before answering.
"I'm aiming to become an adventurer, but if I'm short on money, I'll probably rent a blacksmith shop in town."
At these words, McQueen-san asked me with a pleased look on his face.
"If you don't mind... could you sell me some of the weapon Light-san make?"
After thinking about it for a while, I agreed.
"I understand. I'll put aside the ones I think McQueen-san will like."
"Oh! I appreciate that. Light-san's weapons will probably sell for a high price even in the Republic."
With that said, McQueen-san gripped the carriage's rope with a sense of excitement.
A business deal was unexpectedly concluded...
I don't have much trouble with money.
This was because the rewards I received from each guild in the Baron territory given to me by Sebas were too large.
Well... it is a lot since it's about 5 years' worth of rewards...
Every guild's reward was a bag full of gold coins.
What particularly caught my eye was the reward from the blacksmith guild.
They probably stuffed the bag with the sales of the items I made. The bag is bigger than those of any other guilds.
Next is the Apothecary Guild. The Adventurer's Guild and Alchemist Guild are about the same size.
The bags were all filled with gold coins.
To be honest, I was too lazy to count them, so I just put them in [Spatial Magic].
I could probably live normally for two or three years without working.
But since I have been doing something every day for the past five years, I would not feel comfortable not working.
This is actually the case now. Just walking is not a good workout. It's time to move my body.
While thinking about this, I walked down the road while listening to McQueen-san humming beside me.
