A-Rank Adventurer Mondo
"What? You are using a sword too? It makes sense that the sword you make is different from a dwarf's. Does that mean you have some knowledge?"
That's what Mondo, the old man, said when I took out my favorite sword from [Spatial Magic].
To be honest, I have no knowledge of kendo or sword techniques. However, I only chose a sword out of pure admiration. It's partly because I'm originally Japanese, but also because I myself love historical dramas. When I was a child, I remember watching reruns of historical dramas in the evenings.
"It's not like I have any knowledge. It's my own way of doing things."
"I guess. If someone I don't know uses a sword, it must be self-made."
He said something that bothered me a little, but now I had to compete with this old man first.
As I put my hand on the hilt and bent down, the old man must have realized that I was ready, and he drew his sword and took a kendo... a middle stance.
I close the distance toward the old man at once. I use my [swordsmanship] skill, so-called [flash step], to get in close to the old man. At the same time, I draw my sword from its sheath.
Iai flash
(TN: Iai, the art of drawing one's sword, cutting down one's opponent and sheathing the sword afterward)
The old man parried it with his sword without any problem.
But I've already factored that in. A blade of wind approaches the old man from behind me. It was the [wind magic] I released just before the attack.
I go behind the old man as he parried. The old man moved forward and cut the blade of wind.
That's right, he cut the blade of wind created by magic.
I fired two blades of wind at him, both of which he avoided, and he then used the momentum he had to fire a side-swipe at me from behind.
I lightly jump behind and dodge it. Then, I adjusted my stance and slashed at the old man from above.
However, a shock ran through my right side.
The old man hit me in the side with the handle of his sword right after he released the first slash.
I continued the upper attack while I was out of balance, but the old man lightly ducked. Then, with a slight movement, he slashed the sword on my side from the same angle, diagonally to the left.
It was a slash from a blow, and in form, it was as fast as a barrage of blows. I was hit by that slash.
From the left armpit to the right hip, a flash of light remains, albeit shallowly.
I was upset. This is because the current slash is definitely him, holding back. If the old man had changed his strength and the position of his sword a little, I would have been cut in half. The old man relaxed in that short amount of time.
In order to adjust my stance, I ran forward in the same position that I attacked him and distanced myself from him.
We both turn around and assume the middle stance.
The old man was looking at me a little strange, but there was no strength in his expression. In short, the series of exchanges seems to be of no significance to the old man.
I release magic. I deploy several fireballs of [fire magic] around the old man and shoot them.
I also deploy and fire several blades of wind, and at the same time, I run toward the old man.
From the other side, it looks like I'm using magic to attack him all at once, but I'm not. The fireball is just a blinder, and the blades of wind are a disguise for my attack. And my running to the old man was also a fake.
The old man is cutting magic just as I expected. And only the ones that would hit him directly and accurately. The rest, he is just moving a little to avoid them. But the old man doesn't take his eyes off me.
One of the fireballs exploded in front of the old man. Although it's only slightly, it blocks the old man's view. I was aiming for this.
At that moment, I used my [Transfer magic] to get behind the old man, and once again struck a slash from above.
But it was stopped!
The old man instantly turned around and caught it with his sword. The expression on his face at that moment was the real face of the old man, the face of the murderous intent that he showed for that moment earlier.......
It was momentary.
The old man catches it, parried me, and dodges my magic, which keeps coming at him. Then he jumps in front of me.
I can't keep my balance because I was bounced off. I thought I wouldn't make it in time, so I used [Transfer magic] to get behind the old man again, but...
What I saw was an old man who had already turned around and unleashed a horizontal swipe.
Again I was struck by the old man's blow. This time, the slash left a mark on my stomach. I shifted in the same position I had been hit, and after taking the blow, I jumped backward to adjust my stance. In the meantime, I continued to shoot magic to check and blind him.
I adjusted my stance and slashed again. While continuing to use magic.
However, the old man still copes with the magic, prevents my blow, and counterattacks.
I tried to hit him with a series of blows, freeze his feet with [Ice magic], turn the ground into mud with [water magic], and use [Transfer magic] in succession....... None of them worked.
The old man will definitely block it and land a blow.
Before I knew it, my clothes were torn to pieces and covered in blood.
Even so, when I continued to attack the old man without slowing down, suddenly...
"Light-kun!"
The moment I realized that the voice belonged to Lida, I felt my consciousness slip away.
"Enough!"
I can hear the old man's slightly angry voice and understand.
I think I lost to the old man...
