Farewell, Felticia
The central street of the capital, lined with stores and close to the Adventurer's Guild and Inn, is the liveliest place in the city.
Grandma Fel lives on the second floor of an old bookstore at the end of the central street.
This bookstore was built by Grandma Fel and her husband, who once arrived in this town.
The sales in the bookstore weren't that great, but the store has continued to operate thanks to Grandma Fel's income from her work as a midwife and advisor to the feudal lord.
Her husband passed away long before I was born, but the store is run by servants who admire Grandma Fel.
Grandma Fel is telling me such a story now.
It has been almost half a year since I last saw her, but she looks a lot thinner than she did then.
I had been looking at Grandma Suzuka with the [God's Eye], so I wasn't really surprised by her current appearance.
However, when I actually met her... my heart tightened.
When she saw me, she had a smile on her face.
After I sat down on the chair next to the bed, we started talking about various things.
Celebrating my birthday and regretting not being able to go, memories of when we met, days spent with me, memories of her own past...
It seemed as if she was telling me this so that I wouldn't forget the existence of Felticia.
I carefully listened to each of them.
In order to never forget her voice, her story, and her appearance...
After talking, Grandma Fel looked tired.
It seemed like she was forcing herself to speak.
After a while of silence, Grandma Fel slowly started talking again.
"Before Light-boy was born, I received an oracle from God asking me to protect the unborn child. So I did everything in cooperation with Sebas-san to prevent the Baron from handing Light-boy over to the church."
I nodded at it.
"I know that Grandma Fel and Sebas did a lot for me, because I saw them with the [God's Eye]. So...... I'm very grateful. Thank you......."
In response to that, Grandma Fel smiled and patted my head.
"But... I can't protect Light-boy from now on. That's why... Light-boy. Think for yourself and protect yourself."
I nodded and replied to her words.
"It's okay. I've learned a lot of things not only from Grandma Fel but from many other people until today. So...... don't worry......"
I tried to act strong so as not to worry Grandma Fel, but I couldn't hold back my tears......
I could feel the tears gradually building up in my eyes and running down my cheeks.
Grandma Fel heard my words and nodded in response. Then Grandma Fel asked something unexpected.
"Light-boy. Isn't there a skill you haven't talked about with me or Sebas-san?"
I couldn't help but be surprised by that question.
"As expected... and isn't that skill the ability to imitate other people's skills?"
I was even more surprised and couldn't help but nod.
"I see. That's why you were able to do so many things. That makes sense."
I stared at Grandma Fel with a surprised expression.
"It's late, but... I have a present for you, Light-boy. Please look at me with your [God's Eye]."
When she said that, I rubbed my tear-stained eyes with my sleeve and looked at Grandma Fell with [God's Eye].
Grandma Fel had a skill that I had never seen before.
[Sage]
"Grandma Fel... has become a real [Sage]..."
Grandma Fel had been referred to as the [Sage of the Baron Territory] until now, but that doesn't mean she actually had the [Sage] skill.
Her title was simply in recognition of the fact that she supported the Baron family with her own experience and knowledge.
"I never thought I would become a true sage just before I die... fufufu."
Grandma Fel said that and laughed.
"Actually, just the other day, the oracle came to me again... God praised me greatly, acknowledged my accomplishments, and bestowed upon me the [Sage] skill. He told me to hand over my skill to Light-boy."
Evil God-san again... Is it okay? Doing something that interferes with the world like this...
Like Ginko, I feel like Evil God-san is overprotective of me...
"What do you think? Light-boy? My living proof, my [Sage] skill... Will you accept it?"
I nodded without hesitation.
Her living proof... those words resonated strongly with me.
"Grandma Fell's living proof... I will cherish it."
I stole the [Sage] skill from Grandma Fel.
Grandma Fel did an [Appraisal] on herself, then looked at me and smiled.
"It looks like I was really able to pass on my skill. Now I have nothing left to think about... Thank you, Light-boy..."
Grandma Fel said that and closed her eyes.
"Grandma Fel!"
I instinctively grabbed Grandma Fel's hand and cast [Recovery Magic] on her.
"It's so warm... Light-boy... thank you... thank you..."
With these words, Grandma Fel took her last breath.
Felticia died at the age of 76
I lost someone who was my family and teacher in this world.
No, I'm not crying, someone is cutting onions here.
