Episode 59: Resignation and Bad Luck
"Yes, struggle, struggle."
"Damn you! Out of the way!"
"Are you in a position to talk to me like that? Come on, struggle more."
"...Out of the way!"
"Oh, will not this make him quiet? Well then..."
The young nobleman being mounted by Frau was still resisting the torture that was taking place before his eyes.
The man with one-eye, Lieutenant General Rojisko, seemed to have some idea of what was going on and turned his attention to the soldier walking behind him - or, more precisely, to the old knight that the soldier was carrying on his shoulder.
"That little knight, or maybe he's rampaging because of the knight."
"It would seem so."
It was only a short time ago that the Imperial Army defeated Elfie and the Kingdom Army's rear unit. Lieutenant General Rojisko's heart was a little excited at this battle after a long time.
However, the Kingdom Army's troops, which were cast aside like stones, had already lost their formation through battle after battle, and only this old knight stood in his way at the end.
"No one will advance any further. Even if I throw my life, I will surely stop them here."
And even the old knight was brave and dignified at the end.
Lieutenant General Rojisko is carrying her corpse in a clean state without cutting off her head, which is the least he can do as an enemy to see such a loyal end of Elfie who risked her life for her lord.
"Lieutenant General."
The Knight Commander of the Knights of the White Rose - she noticed his presence and rushes to his side.
"What is the situation?"
"The enemy has been annihilated, leaving those who crossed to the other side and the man captured there. We have also suffered some damage......"
"Good. I was the one who sent a platoon to do the job in the first place. I expected a certain amount of losses."
"Ha!"
Unlike Frau, who treats the Knights of the White Rose as a mole and treats them like stones by the roadside, In an empire where racism against the people of Vu-alheit is rampant, there are less than a handful of generals who behave like Lieutenant General Rojisko.
"Well, that can wait."
With a cane in one hand, he makes his way to Frau and the nobleman underneath her.
"...I'm going to kill you! Out of the way!"
"Jeez~, so persistent."
It was almost pathetic how the rabid dog seemed ready to bite if the restraints were lifted. Because......
"The knight is not rewarded if her master, whom she risked her life to protect, is in this condition."
"...!!"
There was a little interest in him. It had been decades since he had seen such a loyal knight, and it was natural for a warrior to look to her master who she followed.
But Lieutenant General Rojisko was deeply disappointed. He wondered if the one in front of him now was the master of that proud knight. He wondered if this man was really the reason she risked her life. He sighed as he saw him behaving in such a way.
"Screw you, I don't need you to be told by such a thingーー."
"Why are you here in the first place?"
"Huh?"
"That knight only wanted you to escape and gave her own life for that. Why are you still here and still fighting?"
The young nobleman fell silent at the question.
"Did you think you could win? Did you think you could do well? If you thought so, I will tell you."
Lieutenant General Rojisko tells the young nobleman, who has grown quiet for some time now.
"You lost when you chose to stay here and fight, disrespecting the loyalty of your subjects. Then, at least for the last time, be graceful and don't struggle in vain. That is the least you can do to those who have died.”
You know what else you have to do, don't you? As soon as Lieutenant General Rojisko finished, the sword fell out of the man's hand with a clang.
All the Imperial soldiers present thought that his will to resist was gone and everything was decided.
The winner and loser of this battle. It was the moment when it was decided who was the winner and who was the loser of this battle.
"Take him back."
Lieutenant General Rojisko ordered. Several Knights of the White Rose surround the powerless man in order to put a restraint on him.
"It's ridiculous, isn't it~? The parent of the next head of the Fregrance family, the key member of the kingdom's nobility, are tied to a noose. I'll wrap it around your neck and make you a pet. Here, let me put it on you myself."
Frau happily instigated the young nobleman who has been caught. The abusive nature of these 13 nameless assassins made even the Imperial soldiers, who were supposed to be their allies, feel uncomfortable.
With such a scene on the side, the Knight Commander asked Lieutenant General Rojisko again.
"What about the enemy soldiers on the other side?"
"The other side......"
The one-eyed man quickly turns his gaze in the direction he was told. On the other side, however, as far as he could see, most of the enemies on the other side were wounded, and he was about to tell the knight commander that further pursuit was useless.
Strictly speaking, he looked at a certain brown-skinned girl who was wounded to the point that she was about to die.
"That's... no, no way."
"Lieutenant general?"
The knight commander's voice was dubious as she watched Lieutenant General Rojisko's face become indescribable, and his expression turned joyful to the point of almost frightening.
"Fumu, change of plans. Knight Commander."
And before she could say another word, Lieutenant General Rojisko pointed to the brown-skinned girl lying unconscious on the other side of the bridge and said.
"Capture that woman over there. Don't kill her, but bring her to me alive."
"H-ha!"
The knight Commander was not the only one who could hear a hint of vindictiveness in the lieutenant general's voice. It was not only the countless Imperial soldiers behind him but also Frau and the Knights of the White Rose.
That is why what happened next could be called inevitable.
"Ah?"
"Frau-sama!?"
A shout from a member of the knighthood sounded like a screeching voice.
And as if guided by that, the lieutenant general and the knight commander both turned their eyes to see Frau, who had been deeply stabbed in the neck with a dagger and was bleeding like a fountain, and a young nobleman who was being bathed by blood.
The general told it how it was and it’s pretty sad to see Elfie dead. At least he got revenge on Frau and I’ll bet he’s gonna rampage enough to destroy the bridge.
