Side Story: Baron Garcia
Of the five territories adjacent to the Demon Forest, only the Mascargo territory was able to prevent the goblin stampede from occurring.
The rest of the territories suffered no small amount of damage, with the Garcia territory being the most severely affected.
Three villages, including a pioneer village, were destroyed, the fields managed by the villages were destroyed, and the food stockpiles were eaten away. A swarm of goblins also invaded the capital, causing some of the castle walls to be damaged.
The citizens of the territory, the adventurers, and the knights banded together and managed to protect the capital, but they did not have enough strength to push back the goblins.
The situation improved after the arrival of support from a mixed party of adventurers and knights of the Frontier Count family dispatched from the Frontier Count territory.
The capital was barely saved, but many problems remained.
The survivors of the destroyed village became vagrants in the capital, the security of the city deteriorated, the stockpile and tax revenue of the destroyed village was lost, and many adventurers and knights died......
Under these circumstances, Baron Garcia found it difficult to rebuild on his own, and after persuasion by the knights of the Frontier Count and the Baron adviser, Baron Stefano Garcia finally decided to request support from the Frontier Count.
Why did something like this happen...
Stefano held his head.
He had no idea himself, but it had started with Light's departure two years ago.
Stefano, who returned from the spring social gathering, was in a good mood. After years of diplomacy, it was finally decided that church officials would visit the territory.
This was a big achievement that led to the invitation of the church.
However, what awaited him was the news of his son's departure, and the resignation of the man who had served as the head servant for many years and several of his servants.
Stefano was more shocked at the resignation of the head servant than at the departure of his son. When he asks why, he says, [Because the successor to the house has already grown up, and he himself is old].
He tried to persuade him to stay, but he was adamant.
The number of employees who asked for their resignation increased after that.
This trend spread to the knight order, and Stefano had the biggest problem of all.
It was the resignation of his father-in-law, the Knight Commander Malberk of the Knight Order, and the veteran knights that followed.
Stefano desperately tried to persuade them, but Malberk and the knights were firm in their will and would not be overturned.
When asked why, his first response was, [I'm too old to be a knight], but Stefano wasn't satisfied with that, and when he persistently questioned Malberk, he answered, [I didn't want to work under an incompetent lord who didn't understand people's feelings], while swearing. The same was true for the other veteran knights.
"Father-in-law! What about Lilei!?"
Stefano asked, to which Marberk replied coldly with a look of disgust on his face.
"I don’t want to think of her as my daughter. She did not love her own child, whom she gave birth to with pain in her belly, and at the same time, she treated him with disrespect. I am responsible for raising her like that, but she is your wife now. We, her parents, don't know her. And I don't want you to call me [father-in-law]. It's disgusting and makes me sick."
Stefano was stunned, but Malberk continued.
"Please tell that woman, [You are not my daughter. We are moving out of the territory, so you won't have a home to return to]."
Saying that, Malberk left. With the knights accompanying him.
Stefano was disappointed.
Not only the competent head servant, but also the Knight Commander and the knights are gone. It is now regrettable that his adviser Felticia died.
After consulting with the new head servant, Stefano went to the Adventurers' Guild with a proposal to recruit competent adventurers as knights.
When he told the guild master of the Adventurer's Guild that he would be recruiting adventurers to become knights, he was treated coldly.
"Unfortunately, my lord, there are currently not enough adventurers in our guild to be knighted. And recently, there has been a large exodus of adventurers. Our guild is currently requesting support from the headquarters and guilds in other territories. We are training new members, but it's just not enough."
When he asked him why he was in such a situation, the guild master answered while staring at Stefano with a cold gaze.
"I beg your pardon. Recently, the prices of potions and medicines in our territory have increased. The quality of items that are essential for adventurers, such as high-quality weapons and armor, has also declined. In such a situation, who would want to stay in this territory with so little support for adventurers?"
"You! Are you going to criticize my policies as a feudal lord right in front of me!"
Stefano yelled and banged on the desk, but the guild master just nodded and answered.
"I have told you the truth. If you don't like it, you can dismiss me if you wish. It would be easier for me too."
Stefano could not help but be stunned by the guild master's response.
After Stefano returned to the mansion, he ordered the head servant to investigate the situation within the territory.
Currently, there is a shortage of apothecaries in the territory as a talented apothecary has retired and her disciples have left for other territories, and the dwarf guild master of the Blacksmith Guild has resigned and returned to the multi-race Republic. It is a fact that the number of adventurers has been decreasing since then...
Why did something like this happen...
Stefano held his head.
Oddly enough, he did not expect to find himself in a similar situation two years later......
And he never thought of it.
His own son is the cause of all this...
Thanks for the chapter, I hope he never discovers the reason and starts ignorant to the end as just a passing remark in the story.
