Tell Me About It, Grandma Fel! Magic Edition 1

Well, another week has passed since Grandma Fel's skill lesson.

It seems that Grandma Fel and Sebas have been busy this past week. I'm grateful to both of them because they each teach me while working at different jobs.

"Now then, let's continue what we learned the other day. Light-boy was interested in magic, right?"

Grandma Fel asked while drinking tea.

"Yeah. I can use recovery magic, but I'm also interested in other magic. I wonder if I can use other magic if I don't learn the skills to do so."

Grandma Fel nodded at my response and then explained about magic.

"Actually, Light-boy. We can use magic even if we don't have the skills."

"Eh? Is that so?"

Grandma Fel raised her right index finger a little and started a small fire.

"Did you see it? Anyone can do this level of magic without any skill. The skill called [Life Magic] can be used more conveniently. Quite a few people have that skill."

"Come to think of it, all the maids and butlers at the mansion had them, too."

"I see. Did you see that using [appraisal]?"

"Yeah."

When I answered that, Grandma Fel looked a little troubled and warned me.

"Okay, Light-boy. You shouldn't look at people too much just because you have the [Appraisal] skill. And don't talk about what you see. Not many people are happy to have their abilities known. You don't want to bring on any unwanted resentment."

I see. That's certainly true.

"I understand. I'll be careful from now on... why can't you look at people?"

"It's because you can't measure a person only by his or her ability. Just because a person has low ability does not mean he or she is bad. Just because a person has high ability does not mean he or she is good. In other words, ability is not the same as a person's character. That's why you shouldn't judge a person only by his or her ability."

Grandma Fel put some tea in her mouth.

"It's amazing. Grandma's stories are very informative."

"Fufufu. I'm not too old."

Grandma Fel said so and smiled gently.

"Alright, we're a little off-topic, but I'll continue talking about magic."

Then she continued.

"You can use magic even if you don't have skills. Then why do you think magic is a skill?"

This is difficult... honestly, I don't know.

When I was holding my head and groaning

"Was it difficult even for Light-boy? Well then, I'll give you a hint. Sebas-san, could you please use water magic and skill [Water Magic] from the window over there?"

Sebas answered and opened the window to cast water magic.

The water magic fell from Sebas's index finger into the garden outside the window like dripping water.

"Then I'll use my skill [Water Magic] next. [Water]!"

When Sebas said that, the water coming out of his index finger increased in force, and became as much as water coming out of a hose.

"Is this an increase in the power of magic? Does the skill make the magic more powerful?"

"Well, that's what I'm saying. That's correct."

Grandma Fel said so and patted my head.

"Magic as a skill is more powerful than normal magic, and easier to control. However, it consumes more mana, so you have to use it while considering your own amount of mana."

Grandma Fel waits for Sebas to return to his seat before returning to the topic.

"The magic of the skill is not only that. It can be manipulated freely depending on the image. The [Water] that Sebas used means that he used mana to create an image of producing a large amount of water. If you imagine shooting out a ball of water with magic, it will be called a [Water ball]."

"Can skill magic do anything depending on the image?"

"I can't say. It depends on your own mana. For example, if you try to use [Water Magic] to produce a large amount of water like a tsunami, you might suddenly run out of mana and die. If you want to make a large amount of water come out, you'll need the [Advanced Magic] skill."

Sebas then entered the conversation.

"Having the skill of [Advanced Magic] requires a considerable amount of mana, experience, and knowledge. Those with such skills are usually employed as court mages of the country."

"Heh~, [Advanced Magic], huh. I kind of want it~."

"Fufufu. Considering the amount of mana Light-boy has now, it wouldn't be strange for you to really become a court mage in the future."

With a smile, Grandma Fel began to drink her tea.
