The Night Before Departure
With the arrival of spring, Stefano left the territory.
This means my departure.
Since the beginning of the year, I have been making preparations, reporting my departure and saying goodbye to various people.
Preparations included the gathering of miscellaneous goods to be used on the journey and the making of weapons and armor for self-defense.
At first, I was making my own weapons and armor, but Rain asked to make hers as well.
Through her training in the Knight Order and Adventurer's Guild, Rain had already grown to the point where ordinary knights and adventurers were no match for her. The [Hero] cheat is extraordinary considering the speed of growth, although it is still not as fast as mine.
That's why I made equipment for myself and Rain.
I used a sword as my personal weapon.
Why did I choose a sword?
It is completely a hobby. It is natural for a former Japanese to want to own a sword.
Come to think of it, when I was a junior high school student, I remember buying an imitation sword at a souvenir shop in Kyoto and being scolded by my teacher and parents.
It's strange that I remember such trivial things even though I had forgotten my name, age, and occupation.
I made the sword from the materials I made.
I used alchemy to refine the iron ore to the limit and added charcoal to make steel called Tamahagane. The steel is made by alchemy while adjusting it with [God's Eye].
(TN: Tamahagane steel is a blade material used to create the popular Samurai Sword of Japan.)
I borrowed Master Shan's forge and used my mana to create it. Then repeat it over and over again.
In short, it is a process to increase the strength of the steel.
Finally, it is sharpened into the shape of a sword.
Of course, the sheath and guard are also handmade.
During the work, Master was more annoyed than worried and was nagging, but when he saw the finished product, he was even more surprised.
"Is this a sword? You've made something quite outlandish again. No normal person would ever use it. It's a weapon that lacks durability and practicality. But looking at the materials you used to make it, the work you did, and the mana you channeled into it, I know this thing is no ordinary thing. But you are the only one who can master this thing, you know? If you're pouring out that kind of ridiculous mana, even if a normal person were to pour out mana, they wouldn't be able to use it. It's exactly the kind of thing that only a Demon King can use."
Generally speaking, weapons imbued with mana improve their performance when the user channels mana into them. It can also be imbued with the user's mana, such as making it sharper, making it less likely to spill, or even enveloping it in flames.
However, of course, it depends on the amount of mana of the user, so it will not be effective unless the user matches the amount of mana of the magic sword.
My magic sword... I made it with my own mana, and it was made to match my own amount of mana, so I don't think anyone else can use it.
Although it is a finished sword, I have one complaint.
It is...... entirely black.
I put too much mana into it and the steel turned black, leaving no trace of the beautiful white blade or ripples on the sword. The part that corresponds to the ripples glows faintly purple... but...
There's something sinister about this thing...
It really looks like a weapon used by a Demon King...
The shape of the sword is slightly curved, and the sheath and guard are simply decorated, making it perfect in my opinion...
How did this happen……
I used this failure as a springboard to create Rain's weapon.
Her weapon is simply a short sword.
I made this one from raw materials, forged it, and then shaped it, so it should be durable and feel great.
And since it was made to match her mana, I thought the coloring would be normal......
When Rain channeled her mana, it began to glow pale white.
Yep. It's like the sword of a [Hero]...
Rain didn't seem to mind, jumping up and down with joy.
As for the armor, it was unified with leather armor.
If I made it out of iron, we would have had problems when we grew up.
The steel I put my mana into is sewn into the leather, so it has more protection than normal leather armor.
The four pieces of armor are a chest plate, gloves, shin guards, and shoes.
Rain's armor is decorated with stylish ornaments to give it a girlish look.
This is by no means an apology for feeling a little bad when I took Rain's measurements......
The preparations are ready, and tomorrow morning, we will meet up with the peddler escorted by Lida-sensei, and then we will depart.
Martha and Sebas will be at the dinner table today, the night before our departure. Of course, Maria and Rain are also there.
It was the last supper before parting, but it was a pleasant and peaceful meal.
After the dinner, Sebastian suddenly presented several bags and letters.
"These are the rewards from the guilds for all the work Light-sama has done up to this day. I was told by Light-sama that your earnings would go to the Baron household, but...... I have stopped it. I have been saving it in a hidden account in case Light-sama should leave the Baron House at any time. I am sorry that I disobeyed your wishes."
Saying that, Sebas bowed his head.
"Eh! No, thank you. For thinking about me."
Money came in so suddenly that I couldn't help but stutter.
"And here are the letters of introduction from the guilds. Here, Light-sama. I prepared them because I thought you would be able to earn money in these respective professions. Each guild has graciously prepared them for you."
"I see... I'm grateful... I wish I could thank them properly..."
I have told each of them that they do not need to see me off when I leave tomorrow.
If too many people see me off, the Baron might notice us.
However, since they had prepared such letters of introduction, I wanted to thank them properly.
"Light-sama, I would like to present you this..."
Martha handed me a bag full of homemade cookies.
"Please enjoy them along the way."
"Thank you, Martha. I will eat it with care."
When I told her that, Martha's eyes became moist.
"Martha, Sebas. Thank you for everything. And I wish you well."
With those words, Martha began to cry, and Sebas soothed her by patting her back. Sebas also had tears in his eyes.
I'm not crying again.
