Adventurers in the Republic
Now that they know how strong Rain and I are, and that my familiar is guarding and exterminating monsters in the forest, the adventurers start talking to us more.
The one I talked to the most was Jereid-san, who came to talk to me first.
His equipment looks like that of a swordsman, but it seems that he is actually registered as a mage. His rank is C and he's the same as Lida.
In the previous goblin battle, he was the one who fired [Air Cutter] at the lead goblin.
His role in this party is to provide magic support as a rear guard while protecting the rear guard Lida and the two female archers. For that reason, he is able to use a sword to some extent.
The two female archers are Aletta and Henrietta.
Both are D ranks. These two were twins and belonged to the same party, but this time they acted separately from the other party members and participated in McQueen-san's escort this time.
The two male swordsmen are Bless and Vega. They are working solo. Both are D rank. This time, they are participating to earn points in order to move up to C rank.
And Jereid-san's partner who uses an axe is Flight-san. He is the oldest person in this party and a C rank, the same as Jereid-san.
Including Lida, seven people were McQueen-san's escorts this time.
I suddenly had a question and asked Jereid-san about it.
"Even though you are adventurers from the Republic, there are no demi-humans in this party other than Lida. Why is that?"
Jereid-san answered this question with a slightly troubled look on his face.
"Ah. Actually, requests from the Republic to go to the Kingdom aren’t very popular. My party has other beastmen and dwarves, but they weren’t keen on it, so it ended up being just me and Flight."
"Do they all feel the same way?"
"Well, I guess so. There are other elf companions in that twin's party, but it seems that the twins have received this quest, so they took other quests."
"Does it have a bad reputation among demi-humans? What about the Kingdom?"
"It's not like it's a Kingdom thing. If anything, I guess it's because they don't want the church to notice them. They are crazy people who try to kill any demi-human they see."
No good. The church.
"So, what about Lida? Even though she's a half-elf, she always accepts McQueen-san's request, right?"
When I asked Jereid-san that question, Lida hugged me from behind.
Yep. Something soft is hitting my back...
"That's because I was saved by McQueen-san."
Lida whispers in my ear while hugging me...
Stop... it's tickling me...
"I used to live in the Kingdom, but I was an orphan then. McQueen-san, a peddler, found me and brought me back to the Republic. Now I'm returning the favor."
"Heh~. You're lucky, missy. Normally, demi-human orphans wouldn't be able to survive in the Kingdom."
Jereid-san said that, and Lida nodded before answering.
"Right? Above all, the luckiest thing was that McQueen-san entrusted me to an elf orphanage. Thanks to that, I learned a lot of magic and I'm here now."
Listening to this conversation, we continued on.
Jereid-san changed the subject and asked Lida, who was still hugging me.
It's hard for me to walk, so I want her to let me go, but... I don't want to let go of this softness...
"By the way, missy is quite close to the kid. Could it be, this kid?"
Saying that, Jereid-san showed Lida the pinky finger of his right hand. When Lida saw this, she let go of me and let out a panicked voice.
"W-wrong! This kid is my student! I taught him magic for a while! Besides... this kid's age and I..."
Lida is fidgeting while blushing... so cute.
I couldn't help but feel excited.
"Why? Age difference doesn't matter to elves, right? You're 28, right, missy? That's an error! A margin of error! Besides, you don't seem to be too upset about it."
Jereid-san was making fun of Lida with a smirk on his face. Beside him, Lida was nudging his side with a slightly annoyed look on her face.
"Don't talk about women's ages! Even if they're elves!"
Lida returned to her original position while getting angry.
"Heh! That's just hiding your embarrassment. It looks like you really like the kid. I guess the kid isn't in his prime either, is he? When you were hugging him just now, I could see that his nose was stretching!"
Hearing those words, I, who was drinking water from a leather bag, couldn't help but choke...
"Eh! Hey... what are you talking about!"
Seeing that, Jereid-san burst into laughter.
"Hahaha! No, I'm sorry. I never thought this was so much fun. You're still a child after all! Hahaha!"
I glared at him a little, but Jereid-san didn't mind and changed the subject.
"Sorry, just now, she said that she taught you magic, but can you use magic?"
"Yes, I can."
"Hoh. Not only the sword, but magic as well. What are your attributes?"
"I guess I can use all seven attributes for now."
Jereid-san is surprised by this.
"Oi, seriously. But, Lida, I believe she can only use water, wind, and green. What about the rest?"
"I had light from the beginning. The other two, fire, and earth, were taught to me by adventurers who were Lida's companions. For darkness, I learned [Spatial Magic] from McQueen-san's coachman."
"Heh~. By the way, that coachman certainly can use [Spatial Magic]. But if you can also use [Spatial Magic]! That's amazing!"
After saying that, Jereid-san suddenly started patting my head.
"This guy is a super big rookie. If you don't like the kingdom, come to the Republic! I'll take care of you!"
With that said, Jereid-san began to solicit me with a big smile on his face, and I was feeling appalled.
Thanks for the update
