Episode 55: A Quiet Story: Me and My Brother
She ran away from her village with her parents, and even after losing both her father and mother, she continued to flee, until she met a boy.
"Are you okay?"
The boy did not look at her with an unpleasant look, but instead called out to her in a concerned tone.
The thirsty throat, running through the night ever since the loss of her family, was already at its limit, and only mumbled "......water" in a gravelly voice.
"All right. There is a river a little further from here, let's go."
The boy, perhaps sensing what was behind her words, said and naturally tried to take her hand.
However, her body, which was born and raised in her village, was filled with a sense of avoidance toward "ordinary people," and she unconsciously brushed the boy's hand away.
I had done it.
The boy was trying to help her out of the goodness of his heart, but she rejected his hand because of the discrimination that had been ingrained in her over the years.
Yeah, this boy in front of me will probably hit me, too.
When a good intention is returned with an action that could be taken as malice, most people turn ruthless.
"Come on, let's go there quickly."
"Eh? What are you doing!? ”
But the boy in front of her was different.
He was not angry, nor did he blame her for rejecting him. He just doesn't seem concerned and once again took her hand and forcefully pulled her up. Carrying her on his shoulders.
"You're thirsty, right?"
"Yes, but. But why... "
Normally, people would not forgive someone if they showed such a terrible attitude. It had been drilled into her body since birth, which is why the boy next to her seemed so strange, both in his words and actions.
"You didn't do that on purpose, right?"
"Eh?"
Revealing her confused expression, the boy said with a slight tinge of sadness on his face.
"I've heard from my mother that some people say and do something out of reflex. Besides, that's nothing compared to Mashiro. So I'm a little angry right now."
"But I'm..."
"Ahh, you're noisy. It's okay so just shut up and walk. My father will scold me if I abandon a girl who is about to fall down in front of me. It's much more troublesome."
It was only a little later that she learned that this was the boy's way of hiding his embarrassment.
"What's your name?"
"Name?"
"Yep, your name."
According to what she later heard, the boy had actually lost his mother three days before this day.
But even in the depths of his grief, she told him, who was a kind-hearted boy that was still trying to follow his late mother's teachings, her name.
"...mes."
"Hmm? What?
"M-my name is Armes! That's my name!"
"I see. Nice to meet you, Armes!"
It was the first meeting between her...... the knight Armes and her brother.
She still remembers it vividly. She will never forget the carefree smile on her brother's face when he uttered her name, even if she is on the verge of death.
I really hope she doesn't wind up dead or permanently disfigured.. would be way too dark.
